Stand alone easy au jus

Quick Notes: Au Jus is great for French Dip sandwiches, but unless you’re going to do your beef in a slow cooker or in the oven, you won’t really have the shit you need to make a good Au Jus. Sometimes you may just wanna grab some deli meat or steak, and this Stand Alone Au Jus is perfect for that. I’ll talk a bit about how I made the sammy in the notes at the bottom if you’re interested.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans beef consomme
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 yellow onion, sliced
  • 1 dash soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan on over medium-high heat, melt the butter.
  2. Add the onions, and sautee until almost clear.
  3. Add the consomme to the pot and heat to a very simmer.
  4. Throw everything else in there. Be cautious with the salt, don't oversalt it.  It's easy to do with a sauce like this.
  5. Allow this to cook for about five minutes.  If you've used a broth instead if a consomme, allow it to reduce slightly.
  6. That's it.  Let it cool before using it.

Use this with a sandwich and try it with a side of Country Fried Potatoes

Notes

For my french dip in the photo, I chose to do it with shaved steak more like a Philly, so we just pan-fried up the steak. I am not a fan of roast beast in general. We just bought some sub-rolls at the store, cut them in half and covered one side in garlic butter and the other in provolone, and tossed them in the oven just long enough to give them a slight toast.
