Classic Apple Pie with Crumble Top

Quick Notes: I fuckin love apple pie, and this Classic Apple Pie with Crumble Top recipe is definitely a crowd pleaser. The recipe itself is insanely simple, its the slicing that’s going to get ya. I highly recommend serving it with vanilla ice cream cuz that shit is fire.

Ingredients

  • 1 crust, prepared- I buy frozen, but if you have a great recipe then go for it
  • --TOPPING--
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup room temp butter
  • --FILLING--
  • 7 granny smith apples
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • dash of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Combine all topping ingredients in a medium-sized mixing bowl and stir until crumbly and combined.
  3. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin slices, like 1/4 inch thick.  It''s a pain in the ass, but the thinner the better.  I peel the apples first, then use an apple slicer to slice them originally - but then I use a paring knife to cut those pieces down even further.
  4. Toss the apples with the remaining filling ingredients.
  5. Pile on the crumb topping.  Try not to pat it into place too much.
  6. Bake at 45 for 15 minutes, then reduce the oven temp to 250 and bake for an additional 45 minutes.  Check that it's cooked through by poking a skewer or knife down the middle.  it should be soft and go in easily.
  7. Cool on a wire rack until ready to eat.  Serve warm or at room temperature.

Great way to follow up Rich Salisbury Steak and Gravy or Country Fried Chicken.
